My dad’s small business got hit with ransomware — $12k demand 😡
My dad runs a small accounting firm, nothing fancy, just 4 employees. Last week, all his files were encrypted by ransomware demanding $12k in Bitcoin. He didn’t have proper backups, and the attackers threatened to leak client data if he didn’t pay.
It’s shocking because we thought ransomware was just a “big corporation” thing. Clearly, anyone with weak defenses is fair game. Has anyone here gone through this — did you pay, or find another way out?
